I am entering 3/05/03 into a cell and have it formatted as a date but the result is 00/0000/1900 of something like that. It appears that after I enter 3/05/03 it puts an = sign in front of it turning it into a formula. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Without actually seeing what is happening, I guess I can only recommend that you start with checking the regional settings of both Excel and our Windows date/time keeping.

check also, menu: tools, options - click "International" tab.

I am typing 4/13/2003 in a cell and it returns 1/0/1900, I am using format Date 3/14/01. The thing that looks funny is it puts an = sign in front of it up in the menu bar even though I didn't type one in front of it, so I think excel thinks it's a formula. I have looked at the " International Tab" but all looks fine.

Under Tools, Options, click on the Transition tab.
If the item Transition Formula Entry is checked, uncheck it, Click OK.
