Date Extract Issue - Formatting

Hi Excel Guru's

I have a data extraction ( sounds painful , but isn't )
from a piece of electrical testing software.

Have downloaded from csv file into workable spreadsheet.

My problem is with the "test date " & "re test date" columns.

Data comes into Excel as 20050905 , i would like to convert
to 05/09/2005.

I have tried text to columns , but for some strange reason
it extends the result over three colomns !!!!!

Any help on this date conversion would be grately appreciated.

You can convert it using a formula, if that's any good:

=DATE(VALUE(LEFT(cell,4)),VALUE(MID(cell,5,2)),VALUE(RIGHT(cell,2)))

That cuts it down to 2 columns, I guess.

With AgentSmith's formula I think this is a good way to go.

I nowadays import everything as text and convert afterwards because Excel can sometimes convert imported dates into different formats in the same column.
