Date format formula

Hi ,

I want to reference a cell that has a date in the format as 4/1/2010. The date should automatically show as Apr-10.

There are monthly dates Apri-10 to Apr-11. Every month this will change , so this month the range will be May-10 to May-11. I want to auto reflect the change instead of manual change.

What formula can I use?

If the date is in A1:

=TEXT(A1,"mmm-yy")

Date is in D3.

=TEXT(D3,"mmm-yy") gives FALSE. Is it the format of 201004 that matters?
