Date format

I want to show only month and year in a cell. the cell is formatted m/yy. I type in 8/01 for August of 2001 but 8/02 appears in the cell. Formula bar reads the imput as August 1 of 2002. I can trick it by entering 8/1/01 but can I format the cell so I only have to enter 8/01.

Nope, you could use an extra column for this or use a macro, but, no, not directly.
