date format

I have been provided with a file where the date in the cell is the following 20080403 (yyyymmdd). This is NOT in a date format but in a General Format.

Can anyone please let me know how to change this. I have a list of these dates from cells A2:A8500, it is possibly a lot of manual changes.

Highlight Duplicates
Home, Conditional Formatting, Highlight Cells, Duplicate records, OK to add pink formatting to any duplicates in selected range.
Select your data then Data > Text to Columns. Click Next twice to take you to the third screen. Tick Date and select YMD then click Finish.
