date formula

Good day,

I was trying to get the total used leaves per year. Below is my formula. The result should be 4.5 and 3.5

=SUMIF(L4:L12,"2011",N4:N12)

i hope i explained it clearly. for the used column in table 1 i need to get the correct formula. when i used the sumif that stated above it reflects a 0 value. how am i supposed to correct my formula?
