Dear Forum I am seeking challenging questions

Hi all, I teach a MS Office 2010 class and we use a publisher's material. I find the material "easy" less challenging than I would like. For example, for the mid-term they have standard easy questions we can choose from a bank of questions.

I want to include critical thinking and case study type questions; more real life. Does anyone know if there is a book that has pretty darn good questions for a mid-term exam? Word/Intro to Computers/WinXP (yes! XP) Excel, etc.

If you have a book or materials to recommend please send.

The type of questions I'm looking for: example -- Suzy left her glasses at home and has to type a document. To facilitate Suzy's poor eyesight, what should she do: a) ask a fellow worker to type the document b) magnify the zoom button.....that kind of question. Thanks.

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
In order to be fair to your students, I would recommend you base your exam questions on the material you have taught and similar -- at least in some degree -- to the kinds of questions and projects you have studied during the semester. Questions from a third source, though they may be good, could be somewhat incongruous with the rest of your course. If it were up to me, I'd have your students come in, sit down with you, and show you what they know (this, in fact, was how one of my final exams went - once in my life, anyway).

Footnote:

I think I used this series in a course (not sure as my memory is foggy) - if its the same book, I did find it to be organized and suprisingly comprehensive.

New Perspectives on Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Comprehensive
June Jamrich Parsons

This series is very popular at community college type courses:
Microsoft Office Excel 2007: Complete Concepts and Techniques
(Shelly Cashman Series)

But seriously, if you're a teacher you should be contacting publishers left and right getting all kinds of free books. You can also find numerous sites devoted to Excel plus thousands of you tube videos. There's really no lack of resources, not to mention your own ideas for the class.
