is there a way to change the default settings?
- date format 3/7/06
- sort, no header
- decimal places 0

i have tried putting a template sheet at C:\Documents and Settings\lv\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART\Book1.xls with these settings, but new sheets don't obey it.

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
- Date Format is set by your system settings.
- Sort with no header? No option that I know of.
- Decimal places: Tools | Options, Edit Tab, Fixed decimal places...

- Date Format is set by your system settings.
- system setting is 3/7/06, but sometimes it displays as 7-Mar

- Sort with no header? No option that I know of.
- do you mean you don't know of the option or that there is no way to set a default? [it's in the data / sort menu]

- Decimal places: Tools | Options, Edit Tab, Fixed decimal places...
- i have it set to 0 decimal places, but what ever is entered unless row/column is manually set to 0 places.

- Date Format...
Default settings are set by your system, Excel formating will over-ride defaults. Excel may use a diferent format dependant on what was in the cell last, or what is in an adjacent cell.

- Sort with no header?
No Default setting that I know of. The options seem to be set at a default that I do not know how to change

- Decimal places: Tools | Options, Edit Tab, Fixed decimal places...
Again, default format can be over-ridden by previous cell formating or adjacent cell formatting. Pasting copied data will use the source format of the copy.
