Hello,

How do i delete parts of information in a cell. I have over a thousand list of parts and I wanted to delete parts of the information in the cell without having to do it manually.

I was going to insert another column next to the Part numbers and wanted to have a formula where I can just drag down the cells.

Below are examples of some part numbers.

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 253pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=337><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 253pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 12324" width=337><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 253pt; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8" class=xl1365 height=17 width=337>AS568-2-468 (S/T AS568-268V747-75)</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8" class=xl1365 height=17>AGS-3234TC-41-10145 (S/T AGS-3234TC-41-10-1/4S)</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
<TABLE style="WIDTH: 253pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=337><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 253pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 12324" width=337><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 253pt; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8" class=xl1367 height=17 width=337>A06050062-001 (S/T 1222179-001)</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
<TABLE style="WIDTH: 253pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=337><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 253pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 12324" width=337><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 13.5pt; mso-height-source: userset" height=18><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 253pt; HEIGHT: 13.5pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8" class=xl1368 height=18 width=337>Transportation (over & above) (GFY 13)</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 13.5pt; mso-height-source: userset" height=18><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 13.5pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8" class=xl1368 height=18>Transportation (Route Survey)</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 13.5pt; mso-height-source: userset" height=18><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 13.5pt; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8" class=xl1369 height=18>Transportation (GTM-1) (GFY 11)</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

I want to delete everything in the "( )" and keep everything below. Doing this manually will take a long time .

Thank you

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
Here are a couple of solution

=LEFT(A1,FIND(" (",A1))

=IF(ISERROR(FIND("(",B3,1)),"",TRIM(LEFT(B3,FIND("(",B3,1)-1)))

Have you considered using Find / Replace ?

Highlight the column in question
then Edit / Replace
In the find what box, type (*)
In the Replace with box , leave it blank
then replace ALL

Make sure you try it on a test first
