How do I display a specific byte of data/text contained in one cell in a different cell? (e.g. 1234567890 is populated in cell A1. I want '6' to appear in cell B12)

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.

Put the following in B12 =IF(A1=1234567890,6,"")

Edit: Oops! Sorry, I apparently didn't read the question closely enough.

Take a look at LEFT, RIGHT, and MID functions in Excel help. How do you determine which part of the text to take?
