I know that this is probably easy but I don't use Excel every day. How do I....

In cell B1... If the content in cell A1 begins with the string "ie", I'd like to display the contents of that cell in B1.

Help!

thx,

Joe

Can I ask a variation?

In cell B1... If cell A1 CONTAINS a certain string (say "ie") anywhere within the cell, display contents of cell A1 in B1...?

thx,

joe

P.S. Should I have posted this in a separate thread? just so I know for future. thx.

Nah, you're fine..

If you're sure it's a new subject, then go ahead and make a new thread.
If the new question is "similar" or an update to the original, stick to the original thread..

If there's any doubt, stick to original thread.

Better to have someone tell you to make a new thread for the new question,
Than it is to be told you should not have created a new one..

Thanks Jonmo1. Worked like a charm. Also thanks for the advice.

How did you get so good at Excel? Do you use it every day?

And since I'm on a roll, I'm going to push my luck with you :0)....

Can I ask a variation?

In cell B1... If cell A1 CONTAINS any of certain strings or characters (say "numbers","1","2","3", or a dash "-", etc.) anywhere within the cell, DON'T display contents of cell A1 in B1... But DO display anything else?

I manipulate / search through reams of domain names each day. That's why I'm asking these.

That's a little tougher. I'll stop if I'm getting on your nerves.

Thanks,

Joe
