Displaying Raised or Power of Numbers

Hello:
I would like to display a 'power of' number. I am familiar with the =power(2,8) formula and the ^, but this is not what I'm looking for.

I want to actually see a 2 with a little raised 8 beside it in the same cell. Is this possible?

Write 28 in the cell, select just the 8 and set the font to Superscript.

I tried that in XL2007 earlier and it wouldn't keep the 8 superscripted, any idea why?

It doesn't work for me with the number 28, but it works with the string "28".

It seems that Excel won't format the characters of a number individualy.

Sorry, I should have written that the number must be entered as text to use the format in specific characters.
