Don't know where to start - scheduling stock in and out

Hi - first time poster, so hope I've followed the rules.

I'm after help to create something in excel to manage a "glass hire" service.

Basically, we have a set number of 4 different types of glasses. And the current system is confusing, because loads of people use it and don't seem to work together. We often end up double-booking things or going over our capacity, disappointing customers.

What I'd like, is something in excel where we can enter a number of glasses going out. And then record them coming back in on the scheduled day of their return. And then, hopefully, people will be able to see if they're able to fulfill additional orders or not.

Hope this makes sense? Any help you can offer would be brilliant

This would likely be a fairly complex project, but doable. Without knowing your business, I am thinking you will want to not only track changes to the inventory based on rentals, but also loss (breakage) and gain (new purchases).

You might want to read up on userforms as a way to ensure consistent data from all users. You'd want to build in verification code behind the userform to tally the available inventory and alert the end user if the order they are trying to enter cannot be fulfilled based on the calculated inventory for their dates.

Oh my, that sounds complicated.
Yes you are right - I need to take into consideration breakages and new stock. I have never heard of userforms, or verification codes - are these complex to learn for beginners?

Thanks for your response :)

They're not too bad. Do some searches here, contextures.com also has a good explanation.

Figure out exactly what you need to account for, how you want the spreadsheet laid out, get as far as you can and then come back with specific questions.

You can do it and it sounds like it would have great impact on your business!

Thanks for all your help so far - I've managed to make a template of the userform, all very new to me. But I got stuck when it actually came to coding the button to do anything useful. It all looks a bit gobbledegook at the moment!
