I've got this spreadsheet that I've been messing around with. There's absolutely no VBA on it whatsever. There's nothing out of hte oridinary ar all except, as the topic suggests, whenever I double-click several times on merged cells I eventually crash Excel with an:

"Excel has caused an error in Excel.exe.
Excel will now close".

No it may be coincedence, but the crash usually happens within in two double-clicks after I have used my scrollwheel to scroll up the page. So far I have not been able to repeat this phenomenon in a new workbook.

OS: WinME
EXCEL: Excel 2000 (9.0.2070)

PS. I'm just running Excel and IE when this happens.

PPS. No, I do not want to waste my time calling M$. I don't care if I've got two free calls.

PPPS. I couldn't find a solution quickly in the MS KB either.

TIA

Hi Mark,

I couldn't replicate this (Win ME and Excel 2000, too).

Can you unmerge the cells and double click without crashing? If so, keep them unmerged and use Format>Cells>Alignment>Horizontal -- Center Across Selection. BTW, I think this is much better anyway for all uses, not just preventing crashes.

I don't think this will work if you have multiple rows merged.

If it still crashes, then I'm stumped, its copy to new worksheet/new workbook time, I believe.

Heh - if someone's going to reply, at least you could have the good grace to thank them! Anyway, if my last suggestion didn't work how about this: stop double clicking the cells?

Hope this helps,

Paddy

Thank you for your input gentlemen. I shall mess around tonight after receiving your sage suggestions.

Unfortunately Paddy, I posted a question and then went to bed, safe in the knowledge that an answer would be forthcoming. So apologies for not thanking you quick enough, although I should probably thank Jay more.

(I'm not used to posting questions)
