Hi all,

I'm having trouble with the drag fill down feature in Excel 2003.
When entering the date in custom format as below:
ddd dd/mm/yyyy

e.g. Mon 03/10/2011

When dragging down from that cell it causes the year to go up 2012, 2013 etc rather than the day?

Can anyone help or advise at all please?

Excel Facts

Difference between two dates
Secret function! Use =DATEDIF(A2,B2,"Y")&" years"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"YM")&" months"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"MD")&" days"
Are you sure it's seeing the values as dates instead of strings? What happens if you change the cell format to 'general'? I suspect you need to enter the date as normal (dd/mm/yyyy), then set the formatting as required.

Hi Weaver,

If I just open a new spreadsheet and type the date in that format and drag down it seems to do it. I just checked and it was set to General.

I just tried without the day at the front and it worked fine. I guess having the Day in there might confuse Excel possibly.

Many thanks

Hey,

If you are trying to do this next to the cell which has a format embedded to it, it will pick up the formula of the adjacent cell. So, please leave the adjacent cell as blank. Then enter the respective date in the next cell after the blank cell. Then do the drag shortcut for autopulling the dates in the excel. This will work.
