Any idea how to include a blank option in a drop down list without using a group of cells including one blank cell.

I'd like to have the list independent of a list saved within a range of cells

Why can't spreadsheets drive cars? They crash too often!
That's weird it works for me. Do you get any errors or you just don't see a blank after the 3rd item?

No errors and no blank after the 3rd item.

Tried it in both Excel 2002 and 2007, with and without Ignore blank checked.

The first time it works, then when I go back it doesn't work. So with that the only option would be to create the list including a blank cell and then range name it. I know you said that you didn't want that, but not seeing any other solution. Put your list on another sheet, then you could hide the sheet if that's an issue.
