I am trying to create a drop down list that will span over several cells.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p> </o:p>
Column A is a list of Cabin Names
Column B is the Map letter where the cabin is located
Column C is the Alarm Code for that cabin
<o:p> </o:p>
I have all this information on one sheet that I can create the list from.
<o:p> </o:p>
On the main data entry worksheet I want to enter cell ‘A:whatever’, with a dropdown list, select Cabin 123 and have the Map letter display in cell ‘B:whatever’ and the Alarm Code display in cell ‘C:whatever’.
<o:p> </o:p>
Any questions that might help clarify what I am trying to accomplish will be welcome. Please bear in mind that I am new to this.
<o:p> </o:p>
Thank you

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
Hello,

instead of a drop down box, why not use DATA --> VALIDATION and allow LIST and enter the range of cabins, then use VLOOKUP? for cols B & C?

I know how to use the DATA---VALIDATION---LIST feature and have used it for other selection criteria - it didn't seem to want to use a range of cells.

I'm not familiar with VLOOKUP but am busy reading all my "Dummies" books for information. Any other suggestions for research material?

Thank you

To use a list from another sheet in Data validation, you need to name the range that conatins the list. Say you name that range that contains the list of cabins as 'Cabins', then for Data Validation on the other sheet, use Allow: List and in the source box put =Cabins

For VLOOKUP, also have a look in Excel's built-in Help as there is fairly good explanation and examples there.
