I have a drop down list created by using Data> Validation, Allow: List. My source equals for this example the values One,Two,Three. My question, if the answer is not in the list, is there a way you could have them type something in the cell. I tried but you get this error message “The value you entered is not valid. A user has restricted values that can be entered into this cell”. Any help…. much appreciated.
Using Excel 2000

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
No,not with Data Validation. That's the purpose of data validation...restricting what can be entered in a cell.

In the data validation window under the "error alert" set to "warning or information" this will allow data entry not on the list.
