Drop Down Menu - chosing more than one option

Regarding drop down menus - is it possible to choose more than one selection at a time to populate my cell? I'm being told it is not - that the drop down feature is only for one choice at a time. My work around has been to keep adding to my drop down selections - i.e. Tom and Joe both worked on the project - so in my drop down I did another choice of Tom/Joe. The issue is I'll have to create a new option everytime there is an exception to my choices. Help! :) Thanks.

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December

You can not do that with the data validation drop down, no. You would need to add a combobox or listbox control to the sheet in order to have multiple selections.
