Has anyone managed to get data validatio to work from a table?

In my settings I selected
Allow: List
Source: =Table2

Table 2 is a single column

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
Yep, that's correct! Then you click in the cell you have validation enabled for, click on the wee black triangle, and the values appear in a drop-down.

Which bit of that doesn't happen for you?

It will not allow me to put =Table2 in the source

I get message
The formula you typed contains an error

Do you have a range named Table2 in the scope of the workbook (rather than the worksheet)?

Hi Ruddles

I did not notice this before and maybe my problem has been solved?

I cannot use the name Table2 as a range, but if I select the range manually, and the table grows, the range is growing too, which is what I wanted.

I still do not understand what the named range issue is but for now things appear to be ok.

Thanks for your help.

I'm glad you got something that you wanted. For info, to reference a Table in Data Validation, create a named range to reference the required column of the table, like, a defined name of MyList with a definition of =Table1[headertext] even though the Table might only have one column anyway. Then use =MyList in the Data Validation
