Hello All.
I attach a screenshot here of my problem,, if somebody can help me with a solution to this please as I just can't see why it's not showing correctly?
5A3rE.jpg

Basically, I wanted to create a drop down menu with either a tick or a cross.

What's happened though as I hope you can see,,,
because the cells are formatted to wingding,, the cross or tick insert ok,
but the drop down for some reason shows a P or a O ???????????

Anybody help me out here please?

I can't seem to get over it?

Not sure what to do.

If somebody can help I would be most grateful.

Many thanks for all your time.

Excel Facts

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Don't use Wingdings!

Use Insert>>Symbol>>Character Code:2713 (check) and the next cell Character Code:2715 (cross)

Use this as your validation list ;)

I don't know a direct fix, but here's a possible work around in the meantime.
Cells J11:J12 are the input cells for the drop down. L11:M12 is a lookup table. Your drop down will now have two choices: "check mark" and "X mark"

Looks like Dave has a real fix!

Many thanks Dave3009 & Joemo,

1st Dave3009,,

I can't get your suggestion to work Dave????????
You say:
Use Insert>>Symbol>>Character Code:2713 (check) and the next cell Character Code:2715 (cross)

Basically I created a Name in the name manager,,, for cell range, C20:C22
That house a blank cell, then a tick & a cross in the last cell.
This Name,, I've used in the data validation.

Thing is,, I did use ;
INSERT>SYMBOL>WINGDINGS2> CHARACTER CODE 80
(The above is for the tick)
&
INSERT>SYMBOL>WINGDINGS2> CHARACTER CODE 79
(For the cross)

The cells range that this name range is for is R26:AC5025
(I formatted all these cells as Wingdings 2)

Sorry Dave 3009,, can you explain how you are doing it,,
inserting Character Code:2713,,, from my above scenario??
As I can't see how to do it.??

Sorry,, Joe Mo,, I'll look at your solution now.

Many thanks too you both.

Many Thanks

#####Just To Add Dave###

I have tried formatting name range (Tick_Cross) to Calbri font,,
then going to insert>Symbol> then chose 2713,, but I got a funny looking M with a squiggly bit on the bottom right of it :(

Sorry JoeMo,,
My named range is like 15 rows away,,

Not sure how to recode it for this?
& I have quite a lot of cells that need the drop down,,
Range:
R26:AC5025

:(

Inserting a character is not the same a dressing up a letter as a character.

Cell C20: leave blank
Cell C12: Insert>>Symbol>>2713
Cell C22: Insert>>Symbol>>2715

Now name cells C20:C22 to your desired name.

You'll get your desired - ✓ or ✕ - in the dropdown.
