I am seeking some help with using a database in Excel.

Sample Database
Col A Col B

AFL 10000
AFL 15000
AFLPRE 5000
AFLFIN 20000

I am using DSum to total the three categories, "AFL, AFLPRE, AFLFIN" but when I setup up my criteria with "AFL" it returns all rows commencing with the letters AFL. In the above example it would return all rows not just the first 2.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Using "AFL" in the criteria cell allows pattern matching, this sounds like your problem

if there is an equal sign in the criteria cell; "=AFL" will not return AFLX.
