This has to be something simple that I'm doing wrong. I want to set a chart title to equal a cell. I select the title and type
=A1
where A1 contains some text. My title comes out "=A1" (without the quotes). What am I doing wrong?

Excel Facts

Test for Multiple Conditions in IF?
Use AND(test, test, test, test) or OR(test, test, test, ...) as the logical_test argument of IF.
Type =A1 in the formula bar.

See the Excel Help topic for "Link a chart title or text box to a worksheet cell".

Mark,

That gives me an error. But I think the answer was to include the ws name in the A1 path which I did by entering = in the formula bar, then clicking cell A1. Thanks for your help.

I use this type of setup:

In A2: Sales for the year ended
In B2: 30-Jun-02
In A3: =A2&" "&TEXT(B2,"dd mm yy")

A3 displays "Sales for the year ended 30-Jun-02" (without the apostrophes).

Please note the formula must be in a cell; it cannot be assigned to the text box. The formula for the text box references the cell containing the formula.

Put a text box on your Chart - make sure that it is "activated" and then in the formula bar type "=$A$3" (without the apostrophes).

Regards,

Mike
