Easy Excel question - paste visible cells Excel 2010

Hi friends,

I am using Excel 2010. I have two columns, A and B

Column A lists the company and column B lists the stock price.

There can be multiple entries with the same company name in Column A, e.g. you can see the name IBM in row 1, 5, 1016, 9812 etc.

So, I am applying a data filter in column A and for example selecting all the listings for IBM.

Let's say I get 500 results. Now in column B, I want to enter the stock price once in the first row, and then copy it down to all the cells for IBM only.

When I do copy and paste, it pasted the values in all the cells from the first one listing IBM to the last one, including those which are non IBM in between.

I am sure there is a simple solution to this in excel 2010....

I hope my explanation is clear....please do help me if you can.

Thanks,

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
Hmm..Thanks Andrew Sir...but I am little confused. As I have used a Data Filter and selected 'IBM' in column A...it only shows me the cells corresponding to IBM in column B.

However when I enter a stock price in any cell in IBM related cell in column B and try and copy and paste to the other cells that show up when the filter is applied, it pastes it in all the cells, even those which are not showing up in the filter...

would you solution solve this?

Thank You Sir

I also found that instead of copy - paste if you just drag the number down it only seems to fill the visible cells.

That won't happen if you do as I suggested. Although it looks like you have only selected the visible cells you have actually selected those that aren't visible as well. You need to select just the visible ones.

Note that this behaviour is different from previous versions of Excel.
