Hi all,

Using Excel 2010
I added a check box to my worksheet
But I cannot change the default caption that is displayed "Check Box 2"

My right mouse button seems to be disabled in Excel, but it does work in Word
I think it may be due to Essbase 9.3 Add-in

Is there another way to select the caption of the check box so I may edit the text?

Excel Facts

Pivot Table Drill Down
Double-click any number in a pivot table to create a new report showing all detail rows that make up that number
If you have a checkbox it's like you inserted it from the Developer tab. At the top where you see 'File' 'Edit' etc., find the developer tab.

Once there, click 'Design' or 'Design Mode' and then you should be able to select the checkbox. Right click it, select properties and change the caption to whatever you want it to be.

Thanks Brian,

Design Mode is greyed or "ghosted" out
I checked backstage, the document is not protected

I created a new document
I added a button from Developer..Insert..Form Controls

Same response when I select the button, Design Mode is greyed out

Is there a setting in backstage to check?

Weird...

I started a new document and inserted Smart Art to draw up a quick process to send to one of my co-workers.

I then killed that workbook, went back to the workbook with check boxed and buttons
Design mode is no longer greyed out.

I right clicked on the check box the double-clicked to open the caption for editing.

Excel, how you taunt me!
But I still love ya' ;-)

Yup.

Also, make sure you are using a checkbox from the ActiveX header, not the form controls.

Either will probably work, but Form controls are just that - meant to be placed on a userform. ActiveX are meant to be used within worksheets.

Glad it worked!
