Editing records in a form with a query recordsource

I've got a form with a query as it's recordsource. I've got one field that needs manual input. The form control is unlocked and the form is set to allow edits. But when trying to update the field I get a message in the bottom LH corner that says "This Recordsource is not updatable"? Does anyone know why I get this error? I've got other forms that have a query as a recordsource and they seem to act normally.

If I set the forms "Data Entry" property to "Yes" I get a blank form with no controls. Even the controls on the subforms are gone.

Thanks for the help.

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
That may be the issue. The query used in the recordsource, references a union query. Thanks for the help. That lets me know what design changes need to be made.
