Is there a way in Excel to search for duplicate information in a column and then delete those duplicates?

Excel Facts

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
Not exactly what you want, but highlight your column (including a header row)
select data - filter -advance filter
select copy to other location
Go to the copy to box and put in a blank column
Select "Unique records only"
and finally okay.

You could now delete your entire original column if you want.

What I do is this:
Go to Format
Select Conditional Formatting
Select Formula is
Formula "=countif(A:A,A1)>1 (or whatever column you want)
and then whatever you want the format to be such as a strikethrough

I do this to identify and review records before deleting them.

By the way, I got this tip from this board but I can't remember from who...probably PaddyD, but I'm not sure(just trying to give credit where credit's due)

IML, I have Excel 2002 and followed your instructions for the advanced filter, unique items only. It did not work. It copied all the items, duplicates included.

Any ideas?

Hi Megnin:

Make sure that the box UNIQUR RECORDS ONLY is checked before clicking on OK.
