Eliminating Empty Pivot Table Column

I created a column that takes the difference or percent of difference from another field i.e. 1st Qtr 2017 versus 1st Qtr 2018 in a pivot table using an existing value column. Unfortunately, what this does is creates two columns one for 1q17 and one for 1q18, with an empty column for 1q17. Is there anyway of eliminating that column? Hiding the column hides my titles. Any ideas?
