Embedded function

Is it possible to embed a function into a cell? Something similar to conditional formatting, but I want the formula to return data in the cell rather than a format. I would like to have a value expressed in the cell based on a Boolean statement, but if a user manually inputs something into the cell the statement will still be there but not applied. Is this possible?

Thank you for your time and help,
Tyrel

Excel Facts

Add Bullets to Range
Select range. Press Ctrl+1. On Number tab, choose Custom. Type Alt+7 then space then @ sign (using 7 on numeric keypad)
A cell can contain either a formula or data, not both.
If a user types data in that cell any formula will get deleted.

Perhaps you could get the user to type data into another cell, lets call it A1.
A2 could then be your result cell with your formula.
The formula first looks at A1 and says if theres data there then use that other apply this formula.

e.g.

in A2
=IF(A1<>"",A1, 10*9*8)

If user has entered data in A1 use then otherwise calculate 10x9x8 (720).
