My manager asked me if there was a way to 'attach' a copy of a credit card statement and screenshot of the General Ledger to the Excel reconciliation each month so that our auditors are able to view those files.

I saved the statement as a pdf and pasted the screenshot into Word and saved that as a pdf.

I followed the instructions I found through Google to embed the pdf files (via Insert Object).

All seemed well and I was able to open the pdf's upon double clicking the icon.

The instructions I got from Google said that the file would be carried with the workbook if it were to be emailed or distributed by memory stick to a computer not linked to our server.

I've tried emailing the file to my personal email address and opened it on my own personal computer, to ensure I can give these reconciliation files back to my manager in confidence that they'd work.

Upon trying to open the pdf's, they appear to be just the icon and single or double clicking them does nothing.

I am using the Excel 365 app at work and Excel 2007 on my personal computer and Acrobat Reader DC on both.
A Google search on my problem seems to suggest that the pdf program used on the computer used to embed the file needs to be the program on the corresponding computer, but that can't be the problem I'm experiencing as the same program runs on both computers.

Has anyone any suggestions as to what's wrong and why it didn't work or is there an alternative method to embed the files?

Thanks.

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
How exactly did you embed the PDF?

How exactly did you embed the PDF?
Hi Rory,
Thanks for the reply.

The steps I took were:

Clicked the Insert tab
Clicked Object (in Text category)
Clicked the tab Create from file
Checked the boxes Link To File & Display As Icon
Clicked Browse and selected the file
Clicked OK to embed the file.
Saved workbook

Double clicking on the embedded object opens the file in Acrobat Reader DC

You shouldn't check Link to File.
