I use a particular database on a once yearly basis. If I fail to make blank copy of the original setup, is there a way to empty the database of all the old records without its picking up the record numbering where I left off (instead of starting again at 1)?

Auto number isn't very flexible, you would probably have to delete the autonumber field, compact and repair, then put the field back in. You can restart an autonumber field, but it's more trouble than it's worth. Someone else might know a better way though.

As long as you have deleted all records in the system, a Compact and Repair will reset Autonumbers to 1.

C & R first removes unused space, then rebuilds the indexes. Once you have the "clean" version, stick a copy away for next year.

Thanks for the help. I didn't even know about Compact and Repair until you told me about it.
