Is there a way to format the cell where you can enter time without typing a colon?? My current format is [h]:mm but I have to enter the time exactly as 8:00 in order for the cell to read it as a time.

I want to be able to just enter a number and have it translate to time...

Example: enter "800" and excel will format it to look like "8:00" or enter "1700" and excel format it to "5:00" (I have to use military time to represent pm so it differs from am)...

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Hey erik, I was going to post the same link

With formatting alone you can make 800 look like 08:00 with a custom format of

00\:00

but the underlying value will still be 800 if you use it in a calculation...
