on a chart of excel when I try entering numbers into cells they come up as #'s how do I fix it? thanks

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
You mean the displayed numbers are the pound sign?

Either the cells contents are too wide for the column width, or the font is too big to fit in the cell's size.

Otherwise, i am not sure I understand the question.

they are only single digits that I am entering such as lottery numbers ex; 1 4 6 8 when i enter the last one they change to pound signs.

Whether entered into single cells or in one cell as you mention, i could not duplicate the error...

Is this a blank workbook or could there be some code or predetermined cell formats causing the issue?

What happens if you type text?

You can click email under my post, I believe, if not send me a PM rather than clutter up the thread any further.

For the benefit of others who may encounter such a problem, the cells were formatted as a date, instead of number making the displayed format to large for the cells size.

Relatively common error caused by the cell format.
