I have made my 1st attempt at creating a new access database - I have imported 3 tables from excel - two are ok but one states that there are errors on the error log table.

the error refers to a column of data that contains both text entries and number entries. I assume I have to change the format before importing - how do I ensure correct format to ensure all data is included in table?

Excel Facts

Easy bullets in Excel
If you have a numeric keypad, press Alt+7 on numeric keypad to type a bullet in Excel.
when you import it
there is a box that comes up asking you if its delimited or fixed width
there should be a button on there that says advanced
click on the button and set the column format to text

whenever I try to impor - have tried get external data also - the import wizard kicks in and I am unable to see any ref to delimited or fixed width - the columns that have the problems have both text and numeric entries - within the import option the format type is greyed out and shows as "double".

I did however create a small sample excel file and mixed numbers and text - and the import wizard accepted this file without error and classified all entries as "text".

any assistance greatly appreciated - I have been trying to import this file for 5 hours now without success.

Edit - I should add I have tried converting the excel file to a .csv and importing but again get multiple errors - its version 2000

Still struggling with this issue - I'm working in Access 2003 not 2000 as previously stated.

When trying to import a table how do I avoid the wizard kicking in - initially the 1st time I used Get External Data to capture the excel file I was prompted to "fix width" delimiter etc - this allows "advanced" options.

Now each time I try to import any data - the Wizard kicks in not allowing me the "advanced" option - I need the advanced option to format excel

when I'm in access there is hte "main" database menu
I don't know what to call it, but its the window that says: Objects, Tables, Queries, Forms ... down the left side

so I right mouse click on Tables and click Import
then an open file dialog box shows up,
in the bottom of it I select Microsoft Excel where it says: Files of Type

and then I select the excel file I want
