I have tried to use the Excel 2000 drop down menu: "Data/Get External Data/New Web Query" and "Browse Web...". I get the error message "To use this feature, you must have a World Wide Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer." I get the same error message when I enter a known good web address (e.g http://www.google.com)

Could there be something missing or in error with my Excel2000 or VB6. Perhaps a missing windows service?

If you have any ideas I would appreciate hearing them.

Environment:
Windows XP SP3
Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13
Excel 2000
VB6

Thanks for your help.

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
I am using Excel 2000 and Internet Explorer 8. XP Pro SP3.

Tried (1) browse to my google homepage, and also (2) typing .. .com as you suggested.

Used options "only the tables" and formatting "None"

The results were a bit strange - but no error message.
