When I try to hide columns in Excel 2002, I sometimes get the error (inconsistently) "Cannot shift objects off sheet", but cannot understand the reason why. Any clues ?

Hello

Sounds like you have some ActiveX controls, a command button, checkbox etc near the columns/edge of the sheet. You will need to move the controls or unhide the column that they are overlapping. Try checking in Page Break Preview - that can be helpful.

Hi Ben

Draw a command button overlapping a couple of columns. Then highlight one column and all the rest to column IV - then 'hide'. You should receive a message saying 'Cannot shift objects off the sheet'. This will happen when you are trying to hide all columns to the end. If you hide just one column you will be OK.
