Evenly Distributed Formula??

Good morning

This is a general question that someone told me about a week ago as a laugh to see if I could figure it out, and I still cannot figure it out. The story goes there were 3 men and 1 match and they wanted to start a fire. The first man only had $8.00 and no logs, the second threw in 5 logs and the 3rd threw in 3 logs. If had to distribute the $8.00 evenly how much would each get? This is not homework, I feel like I am not smarter than a 5th grader. Could anyone help?

Each would get 1 Dollar. The remaining 5 would go in with the logs as kindling to start the fire....

Thanks for the response. I miss typed the question, it should be the first man only had $8.00 and no logs, the second threw in 4 logs and the 3rd threw in 3 logs.

Any help would be apprecited.
