I import data from the AGILE document control program. The dates look like this, 2009-04-06 04:00:00. When I try to format them in the spread sheet to look like 4/6/2009, nothing happens and as a result, I can't use a lookup function and pivot table the way I want to. How can I change the formatting the way I want it?

Excel Facts

Add Bullets to Range
Select range. Press Ctrl+1. On Number tab, choose Custom. Type Alt+7 then space then @ sign (using 7 on numeric keypad)

The date may be Text.

Try moving cursor to a blank cell and copy that cell.
Then move to the cell with the date and Edit | Paste Special | Add

Then format the cell as required.
