Hey guys :

Was just looking @ the websites describing what Microsoft is trying to do with this version. Very impressed with the increase in Col\Row sizes.

Does anyone think their trying to take on such products as hyperion and the likes.... ?

Thxs.

Hi Gary,

Yep -- there's been quite a lot of discussion re 2007 on this Board.

There's some good stuff, and some that may cause some headaches until people adapt. To see more of the thoughts, check out the Sticky at the top of this forum: 1.1 Million Rows...

As for taking on Hyperion, no. The extra data capacity will come in handy, but Excel isn't going to replace relational databases or OLAP products any time soon.

Thxs for the info....

Too bad Excel isn't going to replace the relational databases anytime soon....

I don't have a problem with Hyperion et al; it's just that over the past year, we've had it shoved down our throats @ work. Been told this is the way it's going to be.

No input from the folks who have to use it has been accepted. It's been thrown out there by a few programmers with the caveat; let us know what doesn’t work. The dialog boxes' 'canned' terminology is totally different from what we're use to. Text can be changed, but no one will spend the time to do it. Going to totally confuse a lot of folks. The few training classes they have held, focuses on items that no cares about. Bottom line, they have turned more users off than on...]

And brining back the Hyperion trainers is a waste - Hate their condensating attitudes that we don't know what we're doing. Also, if you try to explain to them what we have been doing with our current system, the answer is always - "Don't know how your current system works, but this the way our system works" (aka, your system is junk, ours is best and if our system can't do it, it doesn't need to be done)

Sounds like your issue is not necessarily the software, just a lousy / thoughtless implementation.

Amazing how often a new system is foisted on the users without first having got their input / feedback at spec and design stages. Then management wonders why everyone avoids or shortcuts it, when if they had taken the time to get some sense of ownership from the users it could have been so much better -- and might have actually solved the business problem it was meant to address.
