Hello,
I want to create a function where if I enter a value (text) in a cell then another value is taken from a two column list and entered in a different cell e.g. I enter "John" in cell A1 and "A" is taken from a table and entered in cell C1. I think it could be a VLOOKUP or IF function but I can't seem to get it right. Hope I've explained this clearly, thanks for any help.

Test for Multiple Conditions in IF?
Use AND(test, test, test, test) or OR(test, test, test, ...) as the logical_test argument of IF.

Create a table with names and values and name it lets say "names"

The formula in C1 is

=VLOOKUP(A1,names,2,FALSE)

Hope it helps

Thank you, that is exactly what I wanted to do.
When I entered the formula it returned a Value Error in C1 but once I typed a name from the table into A1 it entered the correct value from the table.
The main thing is that it works though, thank you.

To avoid the error and make the sheet more appealing to the view use this formula instead

=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(A1,names,2,FALSE),"")
