Hi,

I was given a spreadsheet from someone who is using office 365. When I open up the spreadsheet, everything is OK except when I go to a certain tab. When this tab is selected the spreadsheet crashes.

The original user has no issues with the tab, and he is using office 365. So I am assuming that the issue has to do with the upgrade, I am using office 2010.

Is there any way for him to resave the model as one that is compatible with excel 2010?

Thanks

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
Hi,

I don't have 365, I currently use Office 2016, there are a number of Functions available on 365 that are Not available in all other versions (i.e. MAXIF(S), TEXTJOIN), so if your 365 workbook uses one or some of those Functions, the workbook won't work when you open it with 2010.

I don't know if this is the cause of your problem, but if it is, the formulas using those Functions would have to be re-worked to be compatible with 2010.

No, the formulas Have to be changed to use Functions that are compatible.
Excel will not Automatically change the formulas for 2010.

This is a major reason why, when creating a spreadsheet meant for distribution, it is always wise to use Functions that are available in earlier versions of Excel.

EDIT: If you're getting a whole bunch of #NAME? errors, then this IS the case.

I don't see any errors. What happens is when I open up one of the tabs, the worksheet crashes. I can open up the other tabs without an issue.

Did you try to use that file on a different computer?
Otherwise, I'm afraid you'd have to open the file With 365 and investigate what might be in the Tab causing the crash...
