Excel always pre-loads links with IE7 engine, causing unsupported browser messages. How can I stop this reproducable issue?

For example, if you paste either of the links below into an excel spreadsheet and click on the link, you will get a "Browser Unsupported" message from the website.

This happens regardless of what browser or OS you use and is reproducible. The problem is Excel will pre-load links using an IE7 engine. It also follows 302 redirects, causing some sites that don't support IE7 to return "Browser Not Supported" page to the pre-loader in Excel. Excel then proceeds to open the redirected page in your default web browser.

My question is: Is there a way to disable pre-loading of links in Excel? Or at least to disable following of 302 redirects?

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
