Excel behaving strangely

Just recently when i use excel whichever action i choose ie. highlight column, cell, start formula, flip between sheets, seems to lock the pointer to this function and i can't get out of it. thus i end up highlighting the whole sheet, rows etc.

i simply become locked into whatever i have chosen to do first.

the only way to escape is to end the program using task manager.

I have scanned for viruses and nothing comes up; has anybody else got experience of this problem????

thanks
Tim

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
Not sure your problem is due the SHIFT key stuck.

I had experience that when I select the certain cell, the whole range is select.

What I do is shake the keyboard to remove all the dust.

Do you mean like this? Try pressing F8 to turn off EXT mode, else follow the link...

Thanks for the posts.....bizarre, i retstsrted and the problem disappeared. However have just been playing around and got it to begin again....it is definitely not extend, but is similar to holding the shift key down and selecting cells...no key stuck though.
the strangest thing is that if i select sheets at the foot of excel a small page (top corner folded down) icon appears at end of the mouse pointer.

whichever happens i can do nothing, click on no menus or icons. It is like there is a problem with the mouse pad on the laptop...but stranger still this problem is unique to excel....??

one of those unanswerable glitches i guess...i'll stay with the restart option
cheers
