Hi,

I have an excel file that for some reason keeps calculating when a different cell is clicked in the automatic calculation mode.

The usual suspects of Volatile formula's don't apply so I'm not sure what is causing it.

Do you know if there are "logs" or trails of some sort that would help identify what it is that Excel is actually calculating.

Thanks,

Paul

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
Often that means that it hadn't finished calculating when you started selecting different cells and interrupted it.

Agreed, it's trying to identify what it's calculating in the background.

There's no way of tracking the calculation chain (unless you're only using UDFs that you can debug). You could use a tool like FastExcel to figure out which formulas are causing bottlenecks.

Solution
Thanks just as I suspected (and hoped wouldn't be the case!)
