Excel closing upon typing

Hi,
I experience this bizarre problem - my Excel spreadsheet just closes when I enter new data. It usually occurs when I type data in the first column. Copying to the same column works fine. What's wrong?

This happens while using List, and I use Mac OS system.

thank you for your reply.
I use Excel X for Mac. It happens in some spreadsheets, while some are OK, and the problem started at some point, not from the biginning. As I mentioned, it happens in List option.

Have you search MS or Apple's knowledge bases? This sounds like the sort of problem you might find listed in a kb.
