I had an excel spreadsheet that I had not saved as a file. It was running under book1 and excel crashed while opening other files. How can I recover? I tried opening excel again and it did not open the temp file. Help.

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
I think you are out of luck.

FYI, Excel 2003 has some great recovery features, I've had crashes since I upgraded, but I don't think I have lost anything. Something you might want to look into for the future.

Thanks. That is what I thought but thought there might be a temporary file somewhere that I could rename.

when you start excel again and you see a message popping up that excel has crashed and your workbook is not saved and has to be saved, you have luck. otherwise, you can search your harddisk for any temp file .xls that contains your excel file.

midibig,
I'm assuming, by the sounds of it, that you are on Excel 97. Unless you had the autosave addin activated, the data is gone.
