Hi all!

I'm pretty much at the end of my rope with this error, and I've found this site in one of my many google searches to find an answer to my problems. I hope someone here can help me with my issue!!

What is happening is that when I open certain .xls files, Excel 2000 crashes.
I am running a WinXP machine.
The error is as follows:

AppName: excel.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.8924 ModName: oleaut32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0000a900

The workbooks that seem to give Excel problems are workbooks with Macros. I am led to believe this because I had one that prompts me to run with or without macros when it opens. If I run it with macros, it crashes. If I run it without, it opens fine (but is useless).

Also, when I try to add add-ins, Excel with crash with the same error, but maybe with a different offset.

I have tried most everything from the Microsoft support document "Troubleshooting Excel Error", including deleting registry entries, deleting tmp files, searching for toolbar files and .pip files. You name it, I've tried it (although I'm sure there is something that I've missed!)

Not even a reinstall helped, nor detect and repair.
So, I'm basically sunk on this system with macros until I get this figured out.

Thanks very much!

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
