I have a workbook that I have been working in for months. I have saved three different versions of this file today. The only one I can open is the one I saved at 7:30 am. If I can just copy the modules that is all I need.

I tried opening the files while holding down the Ctrl key but I always get the message that Excel is not responding.

Help!

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
You did not say which version of Excel is being used.
Have you tried "Open and Repair" from the 'Open' button on the "File | Open" menu?
Make sure that you do that on a COPY of the workbook and not the 'original' (even though it may be corrupt).

I have Excel 2010 and I do not see Open and Repair.

When you select File-Open, the Open button on the dialog that appears has a dropdown arrow next to it - click that, then choose Open and Repair.

Thanks Rory, I am sure it would have worked for the data but my work is tied up in the programing and it cannot recover that.

Thank you for the help, I hope I will never need it again.

Does it open if you hold Shift while opening it? Or can you open it in Libreoffice (which won't run the code but should allow you to view and copy the code if e file opens)?

Hi Rory,

It doesn't run when I hold the shift and as I said earlier, it will not open during the repair. But I do not know what Libreoffice is so I did not try it. How do I find it?
