Hi all
I’m having a little problem with a file I created, when I try to open it get a message stating that:

Program Error.

Excel.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program

An Error Log has been created

When this message pops up, Excel will not allow me to open the file, I have managed to retrieve a back up, but whenever I make even basic changes and save it, then open it I get the message above.

Any Ideas as to what may be causing it, and how I can avoid it would be appreciated.

Cheers
BenE

Excel Facts

How to fill five years of quarters?
Type 1Q-2023 in a cell. Grab the fill handle and drag down or right. After 4Q-2023, Excel will jump to 1Q-2024. Dash can be any character.
When I had the same kind of problem, it was caused by a virus, that one day later also blocked my powerpoint and then my word...

Perhaps you should scan your computer?!?!

Cross fingers your problem is of a different nature...

A quick workaround is to obtain a free copy of XLViewer.
This will allow you to read the files.
I have the same problem and have been unable to find a solution.

This might one of several problem's. 1. Links to other files which haven't save correctly. 2. A addin function of a third party. File not correctly save.

Try this.

See if the file doesnot open on another PC if not then the file have a problem. If the file open reinstall excel.

If file does open on another pc Copy sheet for sheet to a new file and rename the file to something else.

Good luck
