Excel finally updated at work and I'm lost

Hello,

I just returned from furlough after months. Took me a bit but I remembered how to do INDEX MATCH again - yay - #SPILL and obscure errors won't go away - boo.

My issue is that when I put in the formula in A2, it autofills. I try to delete the autofill from the subsequent cells but it's like the formula doesn't even exist in those cells to even delete? Just an annoying blue border showing up.

When I try to delete the formula from A2, it causes #SPILL. I don't understand it at all, how do I stop this? I turned off autocomplete in options and it made no difference.

Thanks for any help or advice, I feel like I just took 1000 steps backwards and my troubleshooting brain hasn't quite yet turned all the way on yet.

Please show me sample data and I will fix your formula. You can't turn it off. You don't want to turn it off, you just want to learn how to utilize it efficiently. If you send me your formula and some sample data I will help as best as I can.

Thank you, I will make some mock data and send it to you when I'm a bit free from work. I did another XLOOKUP/Index-match with no issues a few columns down, I don't understand this new issue but hopefully, it'll be solved!

I am sorry for wasting your time. I was about to produce the mock data for you when I decided to try the formula one more time. I instantly had a flashback to what I was doing yesterday and it all became clear. I was making the lookup value an array. What a rookie mistake!

I think I've finally woken up. Thank you for your time.
